Ringtone/Movie

With this task, we (myself and Sadie) created a ringtone usin Audacity and combined it with a movie using Windows Movie Maker.

We used Audacity to create the ringtone that is heard in the clip. We began by importing Taylor Swifts Love Story. We cut out a section to use and then edited it by changing pitch, speed, tempo and used equalisation. We also did this with Britney Spears' Circus It is stereo and was saved as an mp3 file.

To create the movie, we picked out 1 photo of both Britney and Tayor, cropped and combinmed them, and added the "Britney Vs. Taylor" using paint. We then chose 3 other photos of them from the internet and added them into our movie. To finish it off, we added the same photo we had created for the beginning, at the end, and added a title. We then saved it as a movie in the format of wmv.

Introduction to Video ...

1. The video format we will be using this term is Digital Video, what is the other, older format that was used recently.
The older version is Analog Video.

2. Describe the difference between the two formats.
The difference between the two is that Analog signals are made up of continuously varying waveforms, the value of the signal, at any given time, can be anywhere in the range between the minimum and maximum allowed. Digital signals, by contrast, are transmitted only as precise points selected at intervals on the curve.

3. What are some advantages of digital video?
There are many advantages of using digital video to create a vido production compared to analog video. Using analog video was like typing up a letter with a typewritter. If you wished to insert a video at the beginning of a production you had to start from scratch.
Digital video can be enables your work to be edited and re-edited until you think its just right. This includes being able to add music, titles and special effects.

4. What is meant by frame rate in video?
When a series of sequential pictures are moving rapidly enough, instead of seeing each individual image, we percieve a smoothly moving animation. Frame rate is how many images are seen per second.
For example, it takes a frame rate of about 10 frames per second for us to perceive smooth motion.
Below that speed, we can notice jerkiness.
Higher frame rates make for smoother playback.
The movies you see in a theatreare filmed and projected at a rate of 24 frames per second.
The movies you see on television are projected at about 30 frames per second, depending on the country in which you live and the
video standard in use there.

5. Do all applications use the same frame rate? Explain your answer.
No, the frame rate used is dependant on what you aim to create. A simple anbimation should go at least 10-15 frames per second. A film should go at a rate of 24 frames per second, and depending on your country, the programmes and movies you see on television move at 30 frames per second.

6. What is meant by resolution, how is it measured.
The amount of information in each frame is known as the resolution of the image. Resolution is normally represented by the number of individual pixels that are on the screen, and is expressed as a number of horizontal pixels times the number of vertical pixels.
An example is 640x480 or 720x480.
All other things being equal, a higher resolution will result in a better quality image.

7. What is the colour system called RGB?
RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue.

8. Explain the video standards PAL, NTSC, and SECAM, what are the main differences between them.

These video standards are the television standards which are used globally, but each are used in different countries.
The main differences are that NTSC uses only 525 horizontal lines and runs 29.97 frames per second where as PAL and SECAM use 625 horizontal lines and only run 25 frames per second.

9. Which standard do we use in Australia?
In Australia, the PAL standard is used.

10.
For what type of video camera would you need to have a Video Capture Card in your computer to download video?
You would need a video capture card for Analog cameras so that the film can be "digitized".

11.
Why don’t we need a video capture card for the video we will be doing at school?
We will not need a video capture card because we will be using digital cameras.

12. What is an IEEE 1394 port?

13. Why do digital cameras use video compression?
Digital cameras use video compression because if it didn't, then the uncompressed video would take a much larger amount of space to store in. This could result in a video only 1 minute long being 1.5 GB which is immensley huge.

14. Describe what a codec is.

15. What is meant by generation loss? Where does it happen?

Animation Journal

-Wednesday, 18th of March.
Today I began my animation using Inkscape.I chose Inkscape because it would be easier for me to use.The creation process I am using is to just move around the objects on my banner.During the development of the frames, I have been saving my work in the Inkscpae format, "Scalable Vector Graphics File".

-Tuesday, 25th of March.
Today I continued to create my animation using the same process of simply moving around my objects. I have been saving my frames as".png".

-Wednesday 27th of March.
I am trying to aim for the frame rate of at least 10-15 frames per second. So far, there have not been any difficulties.

-Wednesday 1st of April.
Today I finished my animation and its final size is 1.57 MB and consists of 142 frames. ... (yay! :])

- Thursday 2nd of April.
Today I tried to get my animation onto Blogger but I encountered a difficulty, it wouldn't upload. I got myself through this difficulty by putting it onto "photobucket" and getting the URL into my blog instead.

Image File Types

- GIF Files
GIF files are used mainly for storing drawings that have plenty of the same colour pixels. This is because GiF file types only carry 256 colours and is therefore not so great to use for things such as digital photographs because they have too many different colours in each run.

- JPEG Files
- Animated GIF Files
- MPEG Files
- Shockwave Files

Gingerbread Man!!

To create this very special Gingerbread Man of mine, I have used the draw program in "Microsoft Word". The fact that I made it on a draw program means that my drawing is a vector image and can be resized without becoming pixelated.

If someone were to make a drawing using a paint program rather than a draw program, this would not be possible because paint programs only recognise individual pixels and not whole objects, where as draw programs recognise separate objects and they can be moved and changed individually without effecting the entire image.

8 of Clubs

24- bit bitmap--------------------------------------Monochrome bitmap

  • To make an "8 of clubs", begin by creating one simple circle.
  • Put black in the circle and then copy and paste it twice.
  • Place all the circles in formation and make the triangle using lines - fill it in with black.
  • Copy the whole "club" and paste that 3 times. Put them in formation.
  • Paste another club and use 'flip' to turn it upside down.
  • Copy and paste that 5 times and put them in formation.
  • Add in the 8's using 'text'.
  • Make the smaller clubs using the same procedure and put them under the numbers.

There is difference in file size because monochrome bitmap saves less detail and therefore is smaller in size.

Digital Art .. Real Art?

Should digital artworks be considered a valid form of art?
Some people consider digitally creating artworks as cheating. They believe that digital art is not real and should not be considered as such.
Although some have this belief, others argue otherwise. People argue back saying that the computer program(s) being use to create their art are merely tools, just like a painter or artist would use a paintbrush.

Creating art digitally has its advantages to creating it by hand on canvas. These include:
The fact that if you are not happy with what you have made, you can simply click clear and you can start again without wasting time or precious money.
Another advantage is the fact that if you make one simple mistake you can click undo, whereas on a canvas this is not possible.
Also, colours that are on the computer come with the click of a button, but to get a mixed colour to put on a canvas would take a while to get precise.

Skills that a digital artist must posses to be able to create great digital art include having a steady hand and being imaginative and creative just like any other artist.

Digital Media

Digital media is found in many forms. These forms include:
The World Wide Web
Digital Audio
Digital Video
Digital Photos
and
Digital TV Transmission... etc.

These forms of digital media can often be confused with the hardware that are used to hold them. For example, and piece of hardware used to access the World Wide Web would be a computer. An example of hardware for Digital Audio would be mp3 players or an i pod. etc.

Their are two numbers used to code all digital data. These are 0 and 1. This coding system is called 'Binary System'. The binary language used by all digital media and can be translated to other languages. Binary digits are a basic unit of information storage.

A bit is a binary digit, taking a value of either 0 or 1. Consisting of 8 bits, a byte is capable of holding a single character and is a measurement of digital data.

Sampling Rate determines the sound frequency range which can be represented in the digital waveform.

Colour Depth is a term that describes the number of bits used to represent the colour in a single pixel in bit mapped images or video frame buffers. The higher the quality of colour depth, the better and broader range of distinct colours that you have.

The reason colour depth affects both still and video digital media is that it is to do with the pixels in the images recorded, and both of these forms of digital media use pixles. Sampling rate only efects video because it is to do with audio and sound frequency, still images do not use sound.
